Situated in the heart of Valle Guerra, the Sede Casa de Carta is an impressive example of 18th-century Canarian architecture, renowned for its distinctive stonework, traditional wooden balconies, and beautifully preserved inner courtyard. Built in 1726 by the noble Carta family, this grand mansion once served both as a family residence and as a focal point for regional agricultural development during Tenerife’s prosperous era of sugar and wine production. Throughout its history, Casa de Carta has witnessed significant events, such as its role in hosting local gatherings during the Age of Enlightenment and sheltering notable figures involved in the island’s resistance against pirate incursions in the 18th century. In recognition of its historical and architectural importance, the building was declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 1981 and meticulously restored to reflect its original splendour. Today, it houses an ethnographic museum, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the customs, artistry, and traditional lifestyles of Tenerife’s past. Its extensive collection includes historic agricultural tools, period furnishings, and artefacts relating to the Guanche civilisation, the island’s aboriginal inhabitants. The Sede Casa de Carta stands as a living testament to the island’s rich cultural legacy, providing a captivating destination for history enthusiasts eager to delve into the stories that have shaped Tenerife over the centuries.
