Puerta de Tierra

Customs gate to the old port. Every last barrel of wine, bunch of bananas, and every unfortunate soul captured from Africa enslaved in the new world passed through this gate until the port was destroyed.

In the Plaza de Juan González de la Torre, is the so-called Puerta de Tierra, the remains of the important port that had its beginnings in the 16th century, dying in the catastrophe of 1706. All people and goods had to pass through the door that entered or left Garachico. At the initiative of the City Council, this space was conditioned, improving its surroundings where you can see the old winery of the Hacienda de San Juan Degollado.
