Taganana is the largest and oldest town in the region, dating from the 16th century. Explore the atmospheric cobbled streets and the Iglesia de Las Nieves. The parish of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves de Taganana is the fourth on the island. It was opened to worship around 1505 and erected as such ten years later. Today we recite: Virgencita de las Nieves, precious Tagananera, I give you my heart because I have nothing else. Back in these days Tagana was an important commercial center, where they produced sugar, wine and milk, as well as developing a textile industry weaving silk, wool, linen and cotton. From the very beginning its lands were dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane, which gave rise to the construction of the Las Vueltas road, linking the town of Taganana with San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the capital of the island at that time. From the 17th century the decline of the sugar trade took place, developing from then on the intensive cultivation of the vine, which is still one of the hallmarks of the town today.
