Parque García Sanabria
Back to all places
Parque García Sanabria has a lovely lily pond to rest your feet. The park was born from the need to provide the city with a large garden area, combined with fountains and architectural groups. It was the Freemason doctor Diego Guigou y Costa , founder of the Santa Cruz Children’s Hospital and a writer on scientific and historical topics, who, at the beginning of the 20th century , called from the written media of the time for a space of this type to be built in the capital. With the idea of building a park already existing, the municipal architect Antonio Pintor presented a first project in September 1910. However, it was not until 1926 when the mayor García Sanabria approved the construction. There you will find the Flower clock, which is located at one of its entrances, the one that overlooks Calle del Pilar. It is a regular meeting point for both locals and visitors to the city. The watch was made in Switzerland by the Favag house and donated by the Danish consul in 1958.
