Cueva Roja, or the Red Cave, and Camino de Las Lecheras, or the Way of the Milkmaids. It is a historically interesting place. It was from there that the road to the city of Santa Cruz once went. This famous road, called Camino de Las Lecheras, started from Cruz de los Álamos in Las Mercedes and ended in Recova Vieja, which is now home to the Teatro Guimerá. A few centuries ago, the women of the Aguere valleys used this road daily to take their milk production to Santa Cruz and thus avoid the tax points, fielatos, when entering the city. The red cave was a place where the feet rested, as the journey was quite difficult through the abyss, along narrow paths, and the load that the brave Canarian women carried on their heads at that time was not light either - it weighed tens of kilograms. According to historians, this same road was already used by the native Guanches of the island to reach the coast from the valley. The Camino de Las Lecheras is popular among hikers today, with several interesting hiking trails in the area.
