Ermita de San Miguel

San Miguel is the patron saint of the island of Tenerife. Together with other surrounding old buildings, it constitutes an exceptional testimony of the fully historical atmosphere that the square once offered thanks to its architectural harmony. The hermitage was built around 1506 by the stonemason Pedro de Llerena by the will of the Conqueror Alonso Fernández de Lugo, and placed under the invocation of the archangel San Miguel, to whom he had particular devotion, in gratitude for the victory achieved against the Guanches. It was also the place of the first meetings of the Cabildo de la Isla, as reflected in a plaque located on its façade. Ermita de San Miguel was restored in 20th century. Now this is used as an exhibition hall.
