A walking fig tree
Back to all placesThe walking fig tree, in Latin "Ficus pumila", is a plant species that belongs to the fig family. It is a climbing plant that can grow by climbing the soil or other surfaces, forming a dense cover of green foliage. Its name Walking Fig derives from its ability to seize ever new territories with its aerial roots and thereby cover larger surfaces. There are such large walking fig trees known from India that the whole company or a hundred men could easily camp under one tree, so that they could not be seen at all.
